PTP Training Launches Welding Programme to Tackle Regional Skills Gap

Mar 5, 2026 | For Individuals, For Businesses, Provider News

Performance Through People (PTP), a leading Midlands-based training provider, has announced the launch of its latest Practical Welding Skills Programme: MIG, TIG & MMA Fundamentals, delivered at its Walsall training centre two days per week over six weeks. Funding is available subject to eligibility.

Responding directly to growing employer demand for skilled welders across construction, manufacturing and engineering sectors, the programme is designed to equip learners with the technical precision, safety awareness and real-world workshop experience required for today’s welding roles.

90% Hands-On. 100% Employer-Focused.

With an impressive 90% of the course dedicated to practical training, participants gain extensive workshop experience in:

  • MIG (MAG) welding
  • TIG welding
  • MMA (Stick) welding

Employers can select the welding system that best aligns with their operational requirements, ensuring training outcomes are tailored, relevant and immediately applicable in the workplace.

Delivered two days per week over six weeks, the programme provides structured support from foundational safety practices through to producing industry-standard test pieces.

Industry-Recognised Assessment

Assessment is aligned to ISO 9606 certification standards, giving employers confidence in workforce capability and compliance.

The ISO 9606 assessment can be adapted to meet specific employer requirements, offering flexibility across multiple sectors.

Training takes place at PTP’s professional workshop facilities in Walsall, providing an environment that mirrors real industry settings.

PTP’s Operations Director, Ian Bailey said ‘we are seeing an increase in continued demand from employers who need technically competent, safety conscious welders who can contribute from day one. By focussing on intensive hands-on training aligned to ISO standards, we are helping businesses strengthen their workforce’.
